~after Kahlil Gibran

So many seek truth from the sea,
as if expecting a lantern
filled with rainwater
to somehow provide light
and the warmth of a flame,

but the sea, much like existence,
remains mysterious,
reflective
as the birthplace of stars.

A Prophet could rise
from the waves,
clad in raiments
of dripping tides,
and offer to speak the truth
about the nature of time,
but who would listen now?

These voices are but echoes,
like fluttering wings
made of sharpened knives.

They say love is the ocean
that whispers between all lands,
they say that tomorrow
is the mother of your children,
the bow and the arrow
fired into infinity’s brow.
