The Rittenhouse Verdict: Another Unwanted Opinion From a White Man
What the trial verdict says about America and its justice system
The media and online world is in a frenzy tonight, with everyone competing to get their opinion on the results of the Kyle Rittenhouse trial heard before the other. In case you haven’t seen by now, Rittenhouse, who shot three people during the Kenosha riots last year and killed two of them, was acquitted of all charges.
So begins the hand wringing, the op-ed spilling, the shit pot stirring, the never ending debate or argument spreading vitriol and deepening polarization between the two warring factions of our seemingly irreparably damaged culture. No matter how this trial had ended, the results would have been the same.
If it’s not the outraged left protesting tonight in Kenosha, and likely trying to start another riot, it could have just as easily been the outraged right, headed up by the Proud Boys and their angry male militia of MAGA hat wearing friends.
It seems, no matter the outcome, or the events that created it, or the damage done by acting out over these events, no compromise is ever capable of being reached, no consensus, no justice, no peace.
