In these uncertain times

the dust motes still swirl
like galaxies of radiant smoke

the lawnmowers still buzz,
giant hornets
in this neighborhood,
a social distancing hive

the mail still runs
mostly on time,
but now the mailman
looks more like a beekeeper
who’s forgotten about bees

in these uncertain times
it’s important to acknowledge
the way light lands
and collects itself
into a trapezoidal bed
for the cat to stretch out in

in these uncertain times,
the corporations
are still trying to find
a way to purchase
your hands

as if you are a clock
oblivious
to the concept
of counting
