A Poet Doesn’t Know The Raven By Edgar Allan Poe?
A true story of literary horror online
While late one night online scrolling, I came upon a poet’s poem,
quite a quaint and curious attempt at rhyming lines of woe,
all about a raven being oddly mistaken for the angel of death.
And I thought to myself, how clever, the decision to quote
the infamous Edgar Allan Poe,
in the last line of his poem, his raven says, Nevermore.
But the bleakness of truth revealed itself distinctly
in his next post where he apologized meekly
that he never meant to plagiarize another poet’s prize,
to my disbelieving eyes I found myself completely surprised
at his simple declaration, he’d never read “The Raven,”
nor had he heard of the writer Edgar Allan Poe,
no, he said, I thought I was quoting a famous wrestling pro.
A famous wrestling pro! A famous wrestling pro!?
My mind reeled, I stumbled to feel along the walls of my room
to keep my footing from such a shock to my system.
This poet was no child, he was a grown ass man,
but he believed some juicer to be the sole producer
