If it’s all about Death
and commas,
then who is listening
to the sparrow’s songs?

Spilled dirt and loose
severed petals,
signify a separation,
but from what?

Who knows the reason
a certain scent
of vanilla or spruce
works like a vise

on the tear ducts?
The poet notices
how light seems…
