5 Types of Toxic Positivity
Forget toxic negativity, this is almost worse
I get told all the time that I am too negative. People love to call me “Debbie Downer” or say that I lack perspective. They say it is my outlook that makes me miserable. If I just could change my attitude, my life would surely improve!
Hogwash. I’m very happy to be Mr. Negative Nancy. In fact, it’s my negative outlook that increases my enjoyment of this hellscape we call existence. I’m happier because I know life is meaningless and absurd. If you ask me, there’s something far worse than being “negative,” or as I like to call it, being realistic, and that’s forcing yourself to be positive no matter the situation. There is nothing more annoyingly phony than this personality trait, and quite frankly, it’s bordering on psychotic.
Want to know what’s worse than being a Debbie Downer? How about being a Peppy Pete.
Did you know “toxic positivity” is a thing? Well, it is. And you probably know someone who is guilty of spreading this ephemeral toxicity into the world. Or maybe you’re the guilty party yourself. If you are then it’s highly likely a large number of your friends or family routinely fantasize about punching you in the face. It’s even more likely that they talk about you when you are not around and laugh about how ridiculous you are.
